Wasim Akram’s Wife Dies

huma wasim akramThe wife of former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has died at a hospital in Chennai at the age of 42.

Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and National Assembly speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza today condoled the death of former cricket captain Wasim Akram’s wife Huma in Chennai.

In a message to Akram’s family, Prime Minister Gilani expressed his deep sorrow and grief and prayed to Almighty Allah to bless her soul and give courage to the bereaved family to bear their loss with equanimity.

National Assembly Speaker Mirza said she was shocked to hear the sad news of the passing away of Akram’s wife, and prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace, according to an Associated Press of Pakistan report.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt said:

We are with Wasim and his family at this hour of need and pray to God to give them strength to bear this great and irreparable loss.

Huma (42) breathed her last at the Apollo Hospitals following multiple organ failure around 9.30 am, hospital sources said.

She was admitted to the hospital on October 20 after developing an “emergency situation” when an air ambulance flying her to Singapore from Lahore halted at the city airport for scheduled refueling.

Huma was put on ventilator support at the intensive care unit and her condition remained critical since then.

Wasim Akram, the former Pakistan cricket team captain, was at her bedside for the last five days. The couple had two sons.

Arrangements are being made to fly her body back to Pakistan from India.
