The Imam of Ottawa Assalam Mosque, Sheikh Mohamed Rashad, believed to be in his late 50s, collapsed Thursday morning while visiting Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he was on Hajj with thousands of others.
“In a way, this is the worst day of my life. ,My father was a fragile man to begin with. He was a workaholic. He didn’t believe in taking rests,” said Rashad’s eldest son, Abdul Hakim Moalimishak.

I went to Britania Park Ottawa to enjoy the first ever Muslim Festival in Ottawa on August 1, 2009. The weather was very nice that day, lots of sun shine but no rain. It has been raining most of the time during this summer in Ottawa. So sunny day without any rain was indeed a blessing of Allah.

Ottawa residents have a chance to plant a tree for free with Councilor Christine Leadman and MPP Yasir Navqvi on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 10:30am in Byron Linear Park, Ottawa (Corner of Byron Ave and Golden Ave) for a greener Ottawa community. Councilor Leadman and MPP Naqvi will plant a tree in the Byron Linear Park and then give the remaining white spruce trees to local residents to take with them and plant at home.

The Ottawa Muslims Association (OMA) organized the 4th Annual OMA BBQ at Vincent Massey Park on July 19, 2009. The event was a great success! Over 200 visitors attended the event and approximately $4,000 in donations were raisedfor the Ottawa Main Mosque.
The day was filled with lots of delicious food, fun activities, prizes for the kids, and beautiful weather for all to enjoy alhamdulillah.

Ottawa Muslim community gathered at Britania Park Ottawa today for a family picnic which was organized by South Nepean Muslim Community (SNMC). Over 500 Muslims showed up at the picnic spot and enjoyed some very good food. There were some other activities for everyone.

The economic-affair committee of city council of Ottawa has given green signal to sell Ottawa city council’s land. The South Nepean Muslim community (snmc). The decission to approve the sale will go to Ottawa city council on May 25, 2009. The South Nepean Muslim community will pay $1.05 millions for 1.3 hectors of land 3020 Woodroffe Ave.

Ottawa Muslims Association has been in the local news due to a number of issues related to Muslim community in Ottawa, Canada. It is always very painful to see such kind of behaviour on part of the people who have been entrusted with huge responssiblity of keeping the Muslim community united. The issue of Immam of Ottawa Mosque has created so much rift between the officials of the Ottawa Muslims Association that a large majority of the officials has decided to resign.
