Sheikh Mohamed Rashad Passed Away During Hajj

The Imam of Ottawa Assalam Mosque, Sheikh Mohamed Rashad, believed to be in his late 50s, collapsed Thursday morning while visiting Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he was on Hajj with thousands of others.
“In a way, this is the worst day of my life. ,My father was a fragile man to begin with. He was a workaholic. He didn’t believe in taking rests,” said Rashad’s eldest son, Abdul Hakim Moalimishak.

Canadian government funds projects for Muslim youth

The Canadian government is supporting two new projects aimed at helping Muslim youth address discrimination and promote cross-cultural understanding.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada will provide $441,000 dollars for My Canada, a project that provides access to multi-faith sessions for both Muslim and non-Muslim youth in schools and community centres.
“This project demonstrates the importance of promoting common understanding and mutual respect — the basic building blocks to achieve peace and stability here in Canada and elsewhere in the world,” says Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.

The entire Canada was being hammered by a variety of weather systems on the first day of winter (December 21), with storms and blowing snow gripping much of provinces of Ontario and Quebec, while wind-chill warnings are in effect through most of the prairies and Western Canada.
