Singh accuses Pakistani agencies behind Mumbai attacks

6 January 2009 One Comment

Indian Prime minister is coming out of his shell accused involvement of Pakistani agencies in the Mumbai attacks last year. The Indian official stated yesterday that there is no evidence of involvement of ISI in the attacks. However,  Mr. Singh has said while speaking at a conference, ”There is enough evidence to show that, given the sophistication and military precision of the attack, it must have had the support of some official agencies in Pakistan”.  If there is enough evidence then why do not provide it and just keep on playing blame games.

Keeping in mind that alleged terrorists travelled from Pakistan to Mumbai in a boat which was cleared by Indian Navy, does it not shows the involvement of Indian Navy as well? Why is Mr. Ingnoring that fact?

India doesnot want joint investigation, however, has all the evidence against the terrorists in Pakistan who allegedly planned the attacks. Why is India not willing to accept the cooperation extended by Pakistan and just keep on demanding handing over the alleged terrorists to India?

Pakistan has emphatically rejected Singh’s accusation.

“Instead of responding positively to Pakistan’s offer of cooperation and constructive proposals, India has chosen to embark on a propaganda offensive,” the Foreign Ministry said, adding the approach was “fraught with grave risks.”

“Vilifying Pakistan, or for that matter any of its state institutions, on this score is unwarranted and unacceptable. This is a sure way to close avenues of cooperation in combating the menace ”.

There are many unanswered questions regarding the Mumabi attacks last November. The ex-minister for Minorities Mr. Antulay raised some of those and was pressurized to resign from the job.  Arundhati Roy’s article “Monster in the Mirror” also gives a good analysis of the situation in India with respect to Terrorism.

If India seriousely wants that culprits benind the Mumabi attacks be brought to justice, then it should accept cooperation from Pakistan for joint investigation. Blaming game is never going to resolve this issue.
