Pakistan top 20 outsourcing destination in the world

9 June 2009 2 Comments

The rapid growth of technical expertise in Pakistan is surprising for many. Most of the world sees Pakistan only through news media which shows mostly violance in the Country. However, consider this snippet from the BusinessWeek by Rachael King published on June 4 2009.

Pakistan has become the 20th most attractive outsourcing destination,  according to consulting management firm A.T. Kearney. Even as concerns increase about Pakistan’s stability and the growing displaced population due to ongoing military operations with the Taliban, the country made a significant jump on A.T. Kearney’s 2009 Global Services Location Index released May 18. Pakistan went from #30 in 2007 to #20 in 2009.

Pakistan can be a very attractive hub for outsourcing and business because of its position on the globe. Completion of Gawader port will connect China to the world through Pakistan which should boost business and trade activities in the country.

However, political stability and violance free atmosphere is also necessary for majority of the companies willing to do business with Pakistan. The Taliban or terrorists are not only blocking the development and welfare of the people of Pakistan but also destroying their own people and infrastructure. Pakistan government has to take further steps for the development of infrastructure and industry in the country to facilitate further outsourcing.

As Babar Bhatti writes:

This rise in the ranks happened without much institutional support and lack of a coherent policies. In my opinion, this represents the very nature of Pakistani culture. Resilience and the will to carve out ways to succeed is part of the Pakistani fabric. This is one of the many ways Pakistanis are answering the challenges posed by the current security environment. Consider for example the upcoming gathering of Pakistanis in Silicon Valley. One session is dedicated to discussion of how can entrepreneurship promote development and stability in Pakistan?

Pakistan can definitely ‘do more”.

Babar Bhatti is right to point out Pakistan’s resilience and will to succeed. This has been an enduring trait of the people of this region for many decades, surviving decades of upheavals and mismanagement. The intrinsic will of the Pakistani people, defiant of all obstacles and driven by the will to make a better life for themselves and their children has made all this possible. As Pakistan’s largest BPO, Ovex Technologies strives to enable its employees, the people of this land, to contribute their very best for their individual growth as well as our collective prosperity.
It is not surprising that Pakistan has begun to emerge on many consultant’s radar. With an ever expanding breadth of services and emergent technical competencies ranging from full-spectrum BPO to custom application development and from remote management to end-to-end network and data center deployments — Pakistan stands in the face of all odds, capable of offering the very best.
