A Yemeni Airbus which was carrying 153 persons crashed into stormy seas as it came into land in the Comoros islands.
French government is assisting the relief efforts as a number of passenger were French nationals. A doctor, Halidi Ahmed Abdou, at a medical centre opened for survivors has said that a doctor from the military hospital aboard one of the rescue boats called the Mitsamiouli hospital to tell them a child had been rescued alive.

Burka is a sign of subservience – French President

President Nicolas Sarkozy has condemned the head-to-toe cover as a symbol of subjugation rather than the Muslim faith.
While addressing the lawmakers in a major plicy speech, he said:
We cannot accept to have in our country women who are prisoners behind netting, cut off from all social life, deprived of identity. That is not the idea that the French republic has of women’s dignity. The burka is not a sign of religion, it is a sign of subservience. Pakistan can win World T20 cricket cup

Pakistan cricket team captain Younus Khan has confidently predicted victory for his resurgent team after they defeated favourites South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting semi-final. All-rounder Shahid Afridi played a crucial role in the Pakistan’s victory by scoring 56 runs and taking 2-16 with his leg-spinners.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated $1 million for Pakistani IDPs

Celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has donated $1,000,000  to a United Nation’s refugee agency to help Pakistanis displaced by fighting between pakistani army and Taliban militants. Angelina Jolie has visited Pakistan three times to witness United Nations relief operations since becoming a ‘goodwill ambassador’ for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in 2001.
Most Pakistanis forced from their homes are living in government buildings or with host families, but more than 260,000 of them are in camps run by UNHCR.

First prayer on new location for SNMC Masjid

South Nepean Muslim Community (SNMC) has successfully bid for an institutionally zoned prime city land at Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa after Ottawa city council has approved it. SNMC will pay $1,050,000 for approximately 1.3 hectres of land.  SNMC requires community’s generous donations to raise additional $550,000 by Oct 2009 to complete Masjid and community center project.

Police is searching for the suspect in fatal shooting of George Tiller, the Wichita doctor who became a national lightning rod in the debate over abortion. Dr. George Tiller, 67, was shot just after 10 a.m. in the lobby of Reformation Lutheran Church at 7601 E. 13th, where he was a member of the congregation. Witnesses, a city official and a police source confirmed Tiller was the victim.

The economic-affair committee of city council of Ottawa has given green signal to sell Ottawa city council’s land. The South Nepean Muslim community (snmc). The decission to approve the sale will go to Ottawa city council on May 25, 2009. The South Nepean Muslim community will pay $1.05 millions for 1.3 hectors of land 3020 Woodroffe Ave.
