Over 140 Talibans killed in Swat, Pakistan

8 May 2009 No Comment

The Pakistan army has started operation against the Talibans in Sawat area after the agreement between TNS fell apart.

The military spokesman Major-General Atthar Abbas told a news briefing at army headquarters in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, ”Approximately 143 militants have been reported killed in Swat valley.”

He further said, “On the directive of the government, the army is now engaged in a full-scale operation to eliminate the militants. They are on the run and trying to block exodus of civilians from the area.”  The helicopter gunships, fighters and troops were all involved in Swat operations on Friday, against roughly 4,000 to 5,000 militants.

Death and destruction is what Taliban want in the area, then they are very successful in doing that.  I think there was an opportunity of peace in Swat which has been lost. It also further clearly shows that peace or Nazam-e-Adel is not Taliban’s agenda. They are working on some totally different plan – fear, death and total destruction.

Best wishes for the Pakistan army and I do feel bad for all those innocent people who are going to be affected this ongoing military operation in Swat.
