According to NYT, Pakistan has accelerated developping its nuclear arsenal. Members of the Cogress were told about the Pakistani nuclear arsenal in confidential briefings. If it is appearing in the newspaper headline, then it cannot be confidential or one of the Members attending confidential briefings could not keep it confidential. Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff when asked whether he had seen evidence of an increase in the size of the Pakistani nuclear arsenal replied quickly, “yes”.

NYT has also quated Bruce Riedel, the Brookings Institution scholar who served as the co-author of Mr. Obama’s review of Afghanistan-Pakistan strategy, “Pakistan has more terrorists per square mile than anyplace else on earth, and it has a nuclear weapons program that is growing faster than anyplace else on earth.”

I am really surprised that Bruce Riedel is making such a stupid statement. He is saying that terrorists are everywhere in Pakistan. It is not surprising for me however, that United States is playing the same old games with Pakistan. The game plan is clear. China has invested billions of dolars in Gawader port development to gain access to shorter trader route. The unrest in the areas through which this route passes will ensure that China can not use it for trade. Additionally, insurgency in Baluchistan will also make it difficult to continue developing Gawader sea port. Who is going to benefit from this situation? it is anybody’s guess.

I think United States will continue this propaganda against Pakistan for some time to keep Pakistan government under pressure and use it as an excuse to block aid to Pakistan. At the same time informaations from these type of confidential briefings will keep on popping in newspapers as well.
