How many more Muslim girls to sacrifice?

12 January 2008 No Comment

Sarah Said and Amina SaidSarah Said and her sister Amina Said were found dead in a taxicab outside a hotel on New Year’s day. The girls were shot several times causing their death.  Their father is the prime suspect in this killing and is currently on run.

I would not like to get involved in discussions as if it was a case of honor killing or domestic violance and it has nothing to do with religion. I beleive that being a Muslim, it is my responssiblity to stand up and try my best in all my capacity to minimize such tragic incidnets.  It is not my ‘divine duty’ as Muslim to punish others, Muslims or non-Muslims, for any act which is in conflict with my beliefs.

Muslim parents have to make extra efforts to understand Islam and culture in Western hemishpere so as to provide better guidence to their children in all the challenges faced by them in day to day life.  Parents should involve actively in upbringing of their children and not just focus on earning money.  All the Muslim organizations and Massajids (mosques) should try to set up some help line where teens should be able to get assistance in any problems. Furthermore, we need to condemn any such killing on all levels.

I would suggest salaamsblog for some thought provoking reading about the death of these two Muslim girls in texas.
