Eid Al-Fitr to be on October 1, 2008
Eid Al-Fitr is the first day after the end of Holy month of Ramadhan. According to astronomical calculations, the new moon will be visible in most of the countries on September 30, 2008 so that Eid Al-Fitr will be on October 1.
Muslims who started Ramadhan on September 1st will complete thirty days of Ramadhan.
Eid Mubarak to all the Muslim brothers and sisters.
Please do remember those brothers and sisters who are less fortunate by helping them and taking care of them. After all ‘sacrifice’ is one of major lesson learned during the blessed month of Ramadhan.
At the same time, I hope that all the Muslims will celebrate Eid at the same time in North America this year.
After publishing this post, I checked with local mosque which has announced Eid Al-Fitr on September 30, 2008 based on announcement made by Saudi Arabia. May Allah help us all Muslims who rely on calculations for all our daily prayers five times a day but ignore those for moon sighting. According the astronomical calculations, it was impossible to observe moon in Saudi Arabia on September 29, 2008.
My simple apeal to all Muslim brothers and sisters who have been given the authority to make moon sighting decision, please use your own heads as well before you decide.
May Allah Almighty give us all Muslims to be united on this just very basic and simple issue.
