There are reports that massive Israeli exercises in the Mediterranean may be a part of preparations for a strike on Iran’s nuclear installations. Indications that this could be a purpose of the drills practiced at sea have come from the US Department of Defence. In response, Iran has warned it too can deliver a ‘strong blow’ if forceful measures are taken against it. A fragile truce between Israel and Hamas came into force in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, amid scepticism over how long the Egyptian-brokered deal would hold. It is the first formal ceasefire since Hamas’s takeover of the territory just over a year ago, which triggered a crippling Israel blockade of the Gaza Strip.
